Jugo Mirkovic
CEO & EP – Product & ProductionI’ve been building products and growing teams since I can remember. Mostly tech startups and disruptive products. I dipped my toes into the games industry way back when I tried to create a games studio, without any clue as to what it entails. Needless to say I failed and decided to move into Tech. Aaah the young ambition, games were just too hard at that point.
In my years in Tech I was happy to learn that it’s all about the team. Having a happy and healthy team drives success and people enjoy challenges more if the environment is supportive as well as demanding.
After a decade and a half of “product/market fit”, “growth strategies” and “funding rounds” I wanted to do something different. Given I still had a love for games I decided to go back by joining EA. I got an education into how to operate complex, multi-studio AAA productions with hundreds involved. To take something from an idea on a piece of paper to something visually stunning and fun to play is completely amazing. And then to have millions of people enjoy what the team has created is the ultimate payoff.
Getting there is often hard and rough and sometimes a very fun journey. Nothing worth doing is easy and simple but I know there are better ways to achieve the same result. It was this idea that I and a few friends discussed. How can we do things differently?
A few AAA projects later an opportunity came where I and some friends from the industry got together and decided to try this on our own. A way to create something as hard as games but still enjoy the challenges with it. In 2021 “To The Sky '' was born and our first project is on the way. I wake up happy every morning.
I have a very diverse and fun job. New challenges come up each and every day. I feel the most important things I do are to work closely with the team to assure and inspire the right path forward. There are many obstacles along the way, be it creative or industry-wise. My job is to know where our path to success is and why. And basically, make sure that this ship doesn't hit any “large icebergs” on our way to our destination.
Work follows me wherever I go. It’s not easy and I try to abide by our core values of having a healthy balance between work and private life. I love playing sports and activities I have with my kids and my wife. Being a big part of them growing up and goofing around with them are the most important things to me. Sometimes I think I’m a bigger kid than they are but I guess that keeps me sane and grounded.
